Monkeypox

Monkeypox is an infectious disease caused by the monkeypox virus. It can cause a painful rash, swollen lymph nodes, and fever. Most people fully recover, but some may experience severe illness.

The signs and symptoms of monkeypox usually appear within a week, but they can start between 1 and 21 days after infection. The symptoms typically last 2–4 weeks, though they may persist longer in individuals with weakened immune systems.

The typical symptoms of monkeypox include:

  • rash;
  • fever;
  • sore throat;
  • headache;
  • muscle aches;
  • back pain;
  • general weakness;
  • swollen lymph nodes.
